Weekend Recap

This weekend was move-in weekend for SDSU so I tried to hide out at our place as much as possible. David had to work Saturday and Sunday so unfortunately he was out in the crazyness most of the weekend.  I went to the scrapbooking store around noon on Saturday and I didn't venture out again til 9pm to get groceries.

Since I was avoiding the college chaos, I got a lot done around our place.  Here are a few things that I did:
- painted 2 shelves, a clock, 2 lamps, and my chalkboard
-redecorated my kitchen and only spent $12 doing so (I bought a new rug from Kohl's)
-recovered a lamp shade
-got out my fall decor (uh yea, wasn't planning to but I wanted to get just one thing out which turned into everything coming out)
-cleaned off our table (it was driving me nuts)
-cleaned my side of the office so now I can walk to my desk without worrying about breaking or spraining something

I'll show you some pictures this week of some of the things I did.  Well, if I can find some before pictures.  I kind of got in a hurry to do things and forgot to take pictures before I started.

We ended the weekend by having supper at my brother-in-law's Sunday night.  My nephew made a really good vanilla cake with Oreos in it for dessert.  I've never had a cake with Oreos baked in before but it was really yummy!

And just so I don't post without a picture:

Getting to Know You

1. If you accidently knick a car in a parking lot..Do you leave a note or do you get the heck out of there?
Depends if it left a mark or not.  I'm usually really careful when I open my door because it makes me so mad when people dent/scrape/take a chunk out of my car.  I've had all of those happen and never received a note.
2. Love your body or plastic surgery?
I don't love it but I'd never go under the knife for something that wasn't absolutely necessary.

3. What about your favorite blog(s) continues to drive you back?
I like blogs that are funny, inspiring, real, and/or crafty.

4. What percent of your blog is BS just to make your life seem more interesting than it really is?
None of it....maybe that's why my blog isn't that interesting.  I never do something or make something just so I have something to post about either.

5. If you had to give up one type of meat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Does it have to be one I like?  I hate all wild game...if it's hunted I don't eat it.  Yuck.  Gross.  I suppose give up means one that I do like... I guess I would give up chicken.  My first thought was pork but a life with no bacon? Ever?  I don't think so.  And yeah, I know there is turkey bacon but it's nasty.

6. How often to you eat out?
Once or twice a week.  I'd really like to cut it down to once or twice a month though.

7. Skinny jeans or boot cut jeans?
Definitely boot cut.

8. If you caught your spouse cheating would you forgive, divorce, or plan your kill?
Uh, plan my kill obviously.  No honestly, I would pack his stuff and set it outside, and that would be it.  I wouldn't even waste my time yelling.  I could forgive but I don't think I'd ever be able to move past it if I stayed in the relationship.

Have a good week :o)

Weekend Recap

David and I went to Yankton this past weekend.  David ran his 3rd 5K Saturday morning.  The weather wasn't the greatest as it was extremely humid (and foggy as you can see).

Coming toward the finish line.
Quick snap right before the finish line.
David and his friend, Nate.

Even though it was so hot and humid, David finished with his best time yet...32:33.  I'm really proud of him for working so hard!

We didn't do a whole lot after the race, we pretty much just hung out the rest of the weekend.  It was Yanton's summer arts festival weekend but we didn't attend because it was just too hot to enjoy it.  We did look around the booths that were set up in the mall but didn't buy anything.

We had a nice dinner on Sunday to celebrate my FIL's birthday and my MIL & FIL's anniversary.

And that pretty much wraps up our weekend.  Hope you had a great start to your week!  :o)

Back to school

Well we've made it through our first two days.  The kids start tomorrow and I'm so excited to see our students!  I didn't run into any of them over the summer so it'll be fun to see how they've changed in the past 3 months.

I did a quick little "craft" tonight to make-over my school calendar.

AFTER:

Nothing too spectacular but it's better than looking at pictures of random people all year.

That's about it I guess.  I'm beat already!!

Weekend Recap

David had Friday off so we went to Goodwill and stopped at a pawn shop/second hand furniture store in the afternoon.  I was pretty excited because I ran across a hutch/buffet thing at the pawn shop.  I've been wanting one for quite awhile but have been waiting to find one that was the "right" price.  This one was cheap so David bought it for me.  He also loaded and unloaded it by himself because he was either too impatient to wait for help or knew I wouldn't be much help anyway.  :o)
Friday night we had supper at a new-ish fire grilled pizza place here in town.  Then we ended the night by going to Lowe's and picking out paint for my new project.  Yeah, we get pretty wild around here.

David worked a long shift on Saturday so I had lots of time to work on my buffet thing (not really sure what to call it).  I'll show ya pictures sometime this week once it's all put back together.

We had a pretty wild Sunday too.  David did the laundry and I baked some zucchini bread.  I used a new recipe and it did not turn out well.

As you can see it has a flat top and is a weird color.  It tastes ok but not good.  The top is kinda crunchy too.  I don't know if it was the recipe or me....had to be the recipe right? ;o)   I've actually had problems the last 3 or 4 times I've tried to make quick breads so I'm not sure why I'm having troubles all of a sudden.  Any ideas?

Hope you all have a good week!

Random Thoughts Friday

1. I'm in love with my new shoes that I bought yesterday while shopping with my mom.  They aren't super stylish but cute enough.  They are extremely comfortable though...it feels like I'm wearing slippers.  I got two pairs...this gray and a pair in mustard.

2. I'm trying to talk myself out of going to the school today.  I was there Monday and Wednesday and I got some things done but I still have so much to do.  Some of it is decorating stuff but I have some other things that I haven't done yet either....like lesson plans, figure out what I'm using to teach 4th grade math...you know, just the important things.  We have meetings Monday and Tuesday but I should have some time to work on those things too.

3.  I really want to get a manicure but $30 sounds like a lot since I'm really bad about picking off the polish.

4.  I just now decided that I'm going to spray paint the shelf that hangs in our kitchen.  I took it off the wall and wiped it down.  I stepped outside to put some newspaper down and it started to rain.  @#$!  So now everything is sitting on our table adding to the clutter that is already there and I am back on the computer.

5. I am sick of crickets.  They are all over, yuck.  Yesterday I opened my wallet to pull out a couple dollars to pay for my purchase at Michaels.  Guess what was hanging out with my cash....yup a stinkin' cricket.  I have no idea how it got in there.  GROSS!

6.  As I've mentioned before...I'm SO ready for fall!!  Here are some fall inspiration pics to put you in the mood too (if you aren't already).

Hope you all have a great weekend!

What is this?

Last night I was out spraying some finishing spray on some projects (finally!)  I noticed this crazy butterfly/bug thing flying frantically from flower to flower.  I kind of freaked me out at first because it was flying all crazy and kept coming towards me.  I tried to take some pictures of it but it moved so fast it was hard to get good pictures.  Here's a few that turned out ok.

This one shows his sucker thing (a proboscis?) that was really long.

Kinda grosses me out looking at his big thick, furry-ish body.  I'm not a bug person, even if it does have semi-pretty wings.

My mom used to have a flowering bush by her back door at her house.  I remember seeing quite a few of these things on the bush once.  I've never seen any around my flowers here until tonight though.

Anyone know what kind of bug this is?

Weekend Recap

David and I went to a movie Friday afternoon.  We saw Inception.  It was ok I guess.  I didn't really get it though.  I understood what they did and what they were doing but I didn't understand why they were doing it.

I worked on stuff for my Etsy shop over the weekend while David worked.  I didn't get the things finished that I really wanted to get in there though.  The humidity was too high to use my spray finisher so for now everything is sitting on the table waiting to be finished.

Hopefully I'll get them done soon.  I am anxious to get something other than paper products in there.

That was about it for the weekend.  David worked and I crafted.  We are pretty exciting people :o)

Random Thoughts Friday

1. My brother has been working on restoring an ’83 Monte Carlo. He planned to take it to a track this weekend to drag race. He took the car out Wednesday night to check/test a few things. Something went wrong and the drive shaft came up through the floor board. Luckily he was able to keep control of the car and wasn’t hit by the drive shaft. I am very, very, very thankful for that.

This pic was taken this spring...it has a hood and bumper on now :o)

2. There are 9 days til we go in for inservice. 11 til school starts.  I'm pretty excited to go back but am really going to miss sleeping in.  I'm going to put myself on a schedule this coming week.....well, I plan to anyway.

3. I have a really good family.

4. Now that August is here it feels like summer flew by. July seemed like it would never end though. Try to figure that one out.

5. My mom and I are going to Sioux Falls next Thursday for a girl’s day. I’ve been looking forward to it for over a month.

6. There are 47 days until fall officially begins and 141 until Christmas. Why is it that 141 days til Christmas doesn’t seem very long but 47 until fall does?

7. The last four leaves fell off our plant this week. Now we just have sticks sticking out of dirt.

8. I’m going to make an honest effort to look decent when I go to work this year. That means put make-up on every day (not just eyeliner) and wear some sort of jewelry each day so I look a little more put together. I’m thinking Charlotte Russe for jewelry. I’m a fan of cheap jewelry for everyday wear. I’m hoping to find these when my mom and I go to the mall Thursday...

Hope you have a good weekend!
